Three 10-Minute Effort Blocks

1) I often see riders peek at their wrists to check on their heart rate. It’s important to realize heart rate is a reaction to the work being done, not necessarily a reflection of how much work you are doing. The more fit you are, the lower your heart rate. [Speaking of hearts, this week’s banner is a heart drawn in the style of the great Belgian artist Gustav Klimt]. Too many people associate breathing hard with working hard . . . NOT SO!

2) This week’s profile contains three, 10-minute efforts. Understanding how to manage the effort is key to making it all the way through. Here’s a slightly abridged playlist.

Calculating  Heart Rate

3). You do need a fitness tracker to record heart rate info . . . Wahoo has a fantastic device (check out the Tickr X -- it even tracks cadence!) and many fitness trackers monitor heart rate.  Some models even connect to mobile apps (iOS, Android).  If you aren’t training with heart rate, it’s mostly a guessing game.

4) The Apple Watch does have Lion’s Share of the Market and the new update allows you to track heart rate zones. I have an early model Apple Watch and it works for me. Check this link to learn more. Please contact me drucycles — at —- geemail … if you need assistance.

5) I have uploaded an abridged version of this week’s profile. To access, download Intelligent Cycling for your computer (iOS or Android available too) and search for “Dru Cycles or DruCycles”. You’ll see the ride on the app. It even syncs the cues with music if you link it with Spotify. If you go this route, please reach out to me (or dru cycles -at - gmail) and share your experience. I’m exploring ways to connect beyond the spin room. Let’s train!!
